October 1 – 5:30-9PM at ISU, Women in STEM Gala

The Bloomington-Normal Economic Development Council (EDC) is pleased to host this first annual event - celebrating the brilliant, innovative minds of our present and future female trailblazers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).  This not-for-profit, formal dinner event is open to the public. Our guests of honor include high school, college, and professional females as well as our Keynote Speaker, Michelle Conger, Senior Strategy Officer at OSF. The evening will end with an award ceremony where our guests of honor will be recognized for their achievements in STEM fields.

October 2 – 1-3PM at the Normal Theater

Big Dream is a documentary that follows the intimate stories of seven young women who are breaking barriers and overcoming personal challenges to follow their passion in science, math, computing & engineering. From small town Iowa to the bustling streets of the Middle East, Big Dream immerses viewers in a world designed by and for the inspiring next generation of girls. The film will be of interest to young women, families, and anyone interested in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education. All attendees are invited to take part in a panel discussion with recognized women in the STEM fields immediately following the film at the Normal Theater. Microsoft has underwritten and co-produced the documentary, which is directed by Kelly Cox and co-produced by Iron Way Films. For more information about the film and the Big Dream Movement, please go to www.bigdreammovement.com. NR / 90 min.

December ?? – from 6-8PM at Normal West, Girls Who Code K-8 Night

  • We need people to help plan the event

Other Opportunities

  • The Women to Women Giving Circle’s grant focus is programs that seek to inspire and empower girls and young women to achieve their highest potential.  We are writing a grant for a Makerspace for Girls Who Code.

o   We need volunteers to meet with representatives from the organization, ask clarifying questions, draft the application, etc. Our meetings would entail: putting together a project plan; meeting with the Illinois Prairie Community Foundation to gather information; meeting to check our progress; and meeting to wrap things up. We can also set up a Google Doc to help us organize our thoughts.  You can learn valuable skills like marketing, writing, and project management!
