Dear NWHS Junior (Class of 2025):

Normal West High School will offer the PSAT/NMSQT on Wednesday, October 11th, for current juniors (Class of 2025). The PSAT/NMSQT is very similar to the SAT, so it is good practice for the test.  It is also the qualifying test for the National Merit Scholarship Program.  All Juniors are eligible to take this test, though it is NOT a requirement for graduation. We especially encourage academically successful students to participate.  The National Merit Scholarship Program sponsors the competition for National Merit Scholarships and local corporation scholarships like State Farm and Country Financial as well as the National Achievement Scholarship Program.

The 2023 PSAT/NMSQT will be administered at NWHS in room 150A/B beginning at 8:30 AM in its NEW DIGITAL FORMAT. Students need to bring photo identification, pencil, a calculator if desired (one will be provided onscreen), and their CHARGED school issued chromebook.  Students may not bring a personal laptop as the test will be administered through the Bluebook app preloaded on each device. Unit 5 issues chromebooks, outlets as well as charging cords cannot be guaranteed and there will be no make up exam date. Students who have been approved to test with accommodations will receive more information about their testing location and the length of their test closer to the test date.

NWHS students will be registering online for the 2023 PSAT/NMSQT through the website Total Registration. Online registration will begin on Tuesday, August 29th  at 4:00 PM and will be open through Tuesday, September  5th, at 11:59 AM. The cost of the PSAT/NMSQT is $20.00. Students who qualify for free/reduced lunch will be able to request a fee waiver during the completion of online registration. Please note this extremely quick turnaround time.  The counseling office will order extra exams that can be claimed with an additional $3 late fee charge through Sunday, September 17th or until all additional exams have been purchased, whichever comes first.

To register, students should click on the link provided on the Counselors page of the NWCHS website or visit www.TotalRegistration.net/PSAT/143201 and must answer all of the required questions. We strongly recommend that parents and students are both present while registering to ensure that the information provided is accurate.  Registration is not complete until the confirmation page is provided at the end.  It is encouraged to print this confirmation page for your records. The Official Student Guide to the PSAT/NMSQT, which includes practice exam information, can be viewed online by following the link provided near the end of registration.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Keag,

School Counselor
