Physical activity supports students’ physical health, focus, and emotional well-being. But, before starting physical activity, students should make sure their activity goals are attainable. Setting SMART goals (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound) can help students build healthy movement habits and feel more confident. A great example of a physical activity goal is:
“I will play outside or do an active game for 30 minutes after school three days this week.”
Let’s get started: Plan your activity SMART goals by using this worksheet. If you prefer a web-based interactive site, give one of these SMART trackers a try: Move Your Way or The Sprint Project. The key is to make movement fun and achievable! Activities like biking, dancing, hula hooping, or playing tag, can all count. For additional ideas, check out this Lifestyle Activity List.
Do you know of a teacher, staff member, or classmate who deserves some recognition? If so, here is your chance to nominate them for "catching the kat-itude." Please fill this form out to have your nominee recognized.
