Academic Dishonesty Procedure
At Normal West, academic dishonesty can include, but is not limited to: use of AI, copying from online resources, submitting another student’s work as your own, sharing your work or copies of your work to another student and/or failing to cite a source.
In instances of academic dishonesty, the following will occur:
- First instance: Discussion with the student, possible opportunity to redo the assignment for credit (up to teacher discretion), an email will be sent to the student, guardians, guidance counselor, and assistant principal, and documentation in Infinite Campus
- Second instance: Discussion with the student, no chance for resubmission for credit, referral, and an email will be sent to the student, guardians, guidance counselor, and assistant principal
*Any instances of academic dishonesty are cumulative throughout a student’s time at Normal West.
Unit Five Statement on Book Selection:
All of the required texts in the Unit Five English Curriculum were carefully chosen by a group of highly-qualified, informed, and professional educators. It is their belief that these works serve to help each student meet the standards laid-out by NCTE and the Common Core Standards. While we believe that all students will benefit from studying these texts, if a student or parent has a concern about a particular work, they should address it with their teacher to determine an appropriate course of action which may include an alternative text for that student.
